At the UKE, we are convinced that successful and fulfilling work should be harmonised with the personal needs and individual life plans of all employees. Together we can make this possible.

What to expect

We are the UKE – the University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf [Universitätsklinikum Hamburg-Eppendorf]. A pulsating centre of health in the heart of Hamburg. When you are surrounded by that much energy and when progress sets the pace, no two days are the same. More than 14,100 employees with very different responsibilities are united by the same goal: ensuring health and well-being.

Hamburg, Germany’s second largest city situated close to the North sea and the Baltic sea with a population of more than 4 million in the greater metropolitan area, offers an excellent quality of life with all social, educational, cultural and economical possibilities.

The Children’s Cancer Research Institute and University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf are seeking an outstanding researcher and group leader in the field of pediatric oncoimmunology. Our goal is to strengthen our translational research activities and to bolster immunotherapeutic options for pediatric cancer patients. Areas of interest are cellular and antibody-based immunotherapy, mechanisms of immune escape and suppression, neuro-oncoimmunology, cancer vaccination strategies, and explorative ‘omics’-approaches toward tumor immunology. The candidate is expected to pursue innovative research in collaboration with researchers at the Children’s Cancer Research Institute and the University Comprehensive Cancer Center Hamburg.

The Children’s Cancer Research Center Hamburg is located on the campus of the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), with more than 14.000 employees the largest healthcare provider in Northern Germany. Major research areas of the Children’s Cancer Research Center are leukemias, cell-based immunotherapies and neuro-oncology, all of them being performed in close collaboration with the Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology being one of the largest units of its kind in Germany (https://www.kinderkrebs-forschung.de/en/ and. https://www.uke.de/english/departments-institutes/departments/pediatric-hematology-and-oncology/index.html).

The successful candidate will have access to all facilities of the University Medical Center and the Leibniz Institute of Virology both of which are affiliated with the Research institute. Furthermore, the Hamburg Center for Translational Immunology which is under development as well as a new research GMP facility will profoundly strengthen the infrastructure on the campus. Pediatric immunology is also one of the core research areas of the BMBF-funded German Center for Child Health.

The research group will be equipped with appropriate lab space, personnel, and consumables for an initial period of three years with the possibility of a three-year extension after positive evaluation by an external review board. The candidate should aspire to an endowed professorship at our medical faculty as a mid-term goal.

What we look forward to
