University Professor (f/m/d) for Computational Pathology (W2) with Tenure Track

University Professor (f/m/d) for Computational Pathology (W2) with Tenure Track

Institute of Medical Systems Biology

At the UKE, we are convinced that successful and fulfilling work should be harmonised with the personal needs and individual life plans of all employees. Together we can make this possible.

Every day a little more. Every day a little better.

What to expect:

  • Analysis of microscopy images, with classic histopathological staining (experience with tissue microarrays and whole slide images) and complex staining and imaging methods (e.g. immunofluoresence, optical clearing, 3D microscopy, expansion microscopy), aided by deep learning models, as well as classical image processing.
  • Quantification of structures and processes using microscopy images for diagnostics and for basic research, for a better understanding of diseases; e.g. by deep learning-based segmentation (e.g. U-Net).
  • Using image data, potentially in combination with further patient data in multimodal models, to improve diagnostics and prognosis of the course of illnesses (especially time-to-event survival models and recurrent neural networks), particularly for supporting clinical decision-making.
  • Close cooperation with the nephrology, hepatology and pathology departments in the field of autoimmune diseases and cancer and previous experience in this type of collaboration is desirable.
  • Explainability of deep learning algorithms (i.g. previous experience using GradCAMs, attention mechanisms).
